4-2-3-1
The Special One is known for implementing a 4-2-3-1 formation with two holding midfielders, and with United’s first Premier League fixture coming as an away tie to Bournemouth, it could be suggested that his new 23-year-old midfield signing Pogba will slot in alongside either Michael Carrick, Morgan Schneiderlin or potentially Dutchman Daley Blind to solidify their defensive line.
Utilising the former-Juventus prospect’s athletic stature as a ball-winning distributive midfielder could be an option for Mourinho’s team pressing tactics, and could also free more time on the ball for dead-eye passers like Michael Carrick or Daley Blind.
Pogba’s number six role would further allow Wayne Rooney and former Borussia Dortmund star Henrihk Mkhitaryan to occupy creative midfield positions in front of their protective holding pair, with Anthony Martial likely to feature as an inside forward from the left flank and link up with Zlatan Ibrahimovic or Marcus Rashford.
And with the potential to strike an edge of the area shot, showcased to many Serie A fans last season for the Old Lady, the ex-United academy player could provide a healthy goal scoring tally from a deeper position.
However, many footballing pundits have questioned whether the number six role is best suited to Pogba – with his fellow French counterpart Thierry Henry stressing that Jose Mourinho should deploy the young talent higher up the field for him to achieve his best performances.
