Three ways Liverpool could line up with Newcastle United’s Georginio Wijnaldum

Play to his strengths

Wijnaldum was shifted around the front line last season in Steve McLaren’s confused line up, but the former PSV captain made his name playing centrally behind the striker, and Klopp could well put Wijnaldum in this position at Anfield.

Alongside the other creative talents of Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino, this trio would interchange positions and passes fluidly and freely, making it a potentially very difficult group of players to deal with.

With Daniel Sturridge leading the line, these three creative talents would have a willing runner ahead of them, adding pace to the side which could possibly be lacking if Wijnaldum, Coutinho and Firmino were to play together, although this could be addressed further by adding Sadio Mane to the side.

With Mane and also Adam Lallana acting as very handy interchangable pieces of the puzzle, as well as the energy and steel behind being provided by Emre Can and Jordan Henderson, this is the most likely way Wijnaldum will be used in the Liverpool team.
