The squad players are being given a chance in the first team
Chelsea have been widely criticised for the way they stockpile talent and take advantage of the loan system in recent years. Many see it as another method at dodging the financial fair-play regulations, but Conte looks like he is ready to give every player owned by Chelsea the opportunity of breaking into the first team. There have been players brought in from the cold and that has added much needed competition for places. Last season, the players grew too comfortable and there wasn’t a huge need to fight for a place in the first team as they were already guaranteed. This led to a drop off in performance level.
This year, Conte has made sure that he has a strong squad and has the option to drop players who aren’t playing well. He has showed that he isn’t intimidated by big reputations with players like John Terry and Cesc Fabregas playing only a minor role in the first team. Conte is decisive and won’t be forced to pick players on reputation alone, something that Chelsea have needed for some time. The best example of a player taking the most of his chance this season is Victor Moses. He has been on a number of loan spells since joining the Blues and nobody would have predicted his resurgence this season. He is now one of the first names on the team-sheet and has earned that status with his performances this season.
