As discussed above, Antonio Conte possesses a tactical knowledge that few other managers in the Premier League can claim to have. Serie A has always been the league most known for being tactically difficult and the Italian has mastered that league as both a player and a manager. It has taken him a while to get used to the Premier League’s physicality and the language barrier, but he is now beginning to show why he is considered as one of the best managers in the world.

The problem with Chelsea last season was that Jose Mourinho was inflexible and refused to move away from the 4-2-3-1 formation that helped the club win the Premier League in 2014/15. Teams discovered how to beat Chelsea and Mourinho didn’t have the answers. Although there were also some motivational problems as well, the unwillingness to change formations played a major part in Mourinho’s downfall. He is now facing similar problems at Manchester United, but Chelsea have moved on and they are much stronger for it.
