4-3-3
This would be a total reinvention of the system. Pardew has been very true and loyal to his 4-2-3-1 system but this year may prompt a change. Pardew’s 4-2-3-1 system was aimed at dominating the ball more with Cabaye and McArthur pulling the strings in the midfield. Against tougher opposition though, Palace were naturally forced back into a counter-attacking approach.
For such matches, a 4-3-3 would suit Palace better, allowing them numbers in defence and outlets on the counter. A dynamic system that allows pacey play, McArthur and Puncheon’s running would afford Cabaye the ability to kickstart the counter-attack, using fast wingers such as Bolasie, Zaha, and/or, Townsend.
This system would most likely mean Pardew would have to sacrifice a prized winger. Bolasie is typically a mainstay meaning that Zaha and Townsend would be left to battle it out based on form.
