Three signings Liverpool should still make this summer

With just over a month left of the transfer window, there are many reasons to be positive for the Reds. With the cohort of Loris Karius, Alex Manninger, Joel Matip, Ragnar Klavan, Sadio Mane, Marko Grujic and Georginio Wijnaldum already reporting to training with the rest of the squad on the club’s pre-season tour for the first time after their moves, many fans are excited for the coming season as Jurgen Klopp seeks to build his own side.

Klopp is certainly adding depth to a squad which struggled towards the end of last season, with several youth team players being given a chance in the first team and labouring towards results, whilst there have also been some high profile outgoings such as Martin Skrtel and Kolo Toure.

However, there remain problems to be solved. With speculation still filling the back pages regarding potential incomings and outgoings, it looks set to be a busy few weeks for Jurgen Klopp and the much spoken of transfer committee.

With money reportedly still available to be spent, they will be looking at additions to the Liverpool squad before the Premier League season kicks off in August, and Kopites will be hoping that Jurgen Klopp can make the most of no European football this season to mount a serious challenge on the top four. Here are some pieces of business that could be completed before the deadline to help ensure that possibility.

Jetro Willems

The left-back position has been seen as a priority for Liverpool all summer, with a host of names being linked with a move to Merseyside. The latest name to be mentioned is Jetro Willems, and the PSV defender would be a good addition to the Reds squad.

At 22, Willems could reasonably be expensive, but with only one year left on his contract, Liverpool may be able to snap him up at a bargain price to suit all parties. Willems is working hard this summer to recover after a knee injury kept him out of much of last season, but with vast experience for his young age, he would be a worthy addition to Anfield.

The only concern will be that Willems is very much an attacking minded full-back, similar to current first-choice Alberto Moreno. Fans will be concerned that Willems would only replicate the same errors as Moreno, and struggle to resolve the problems seen at times last season when the young Spaniard went wandering too far up the field.
