Three Tottenham-linked players Daniel Levy could buy in January

Tottenham Hotspur were particularly busy in the summer, spending the best part of £100million as Daniel Levy got behind Jose Mourinho and gave him the funds required to mount a Premier League title challenge.

But there are still a couple of areas that could do with strengthening as the January transfer window approaches. Here are three players, linked with Tottenham since the summer window, that Levy could target:

Tottenham are still reportedly keen on a centre-back, according to Duncan Castles of the Transfer Window podcast. One that can allow Mourinho to play a higher-line and press more, meaning a centre-back with pace.

Inter Milan’s Milan Skriniar has been linked, but Zagadou is more the kind of defender Mourinho needs. 90Min claim Tottenham are keen on the 21-year-old. Bags of pace, the Frenchman is injury prone.

But the 90Min report says Spurs are only willing to set aside £15million to spend on a new defender and that means Zagadou could be available on the cheap. Certainly at that price and given his age, he would be a top addition.

Wilmar Barrios (Zenit)

Castles also claims Mourinho wants another midfield enforcer, similar to the ilk of Moussa Sissoko and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – the latter of whom has absolutely starred for Spurs in front of the defence. Barrios is certainly that type.

Primer Tiempo claim Spurs face competition from Newcastle United for the 27-year-old, who was part of the side that England beat in the 2018 World Cup. A midfield bruiser, he would be ideal if Mourinho goes down that route.

Paulo Dybala (Juventus)

The Argentine champion has long been linked with Spurs. A move almost materialised in 2019, only for image rights to scupper a deal. Now, the Argentine is keen on leaving Juve once again, as he struggles to get game time.

Andrea Pirlo prefers Cristiano Ronaldo and Alvaro Morata up front, leaving Dybala on the sidelines. 90Min claim his agents have sounded out Tottenham, as well as five other Premier League heavyweights.

A move is unlikely until the summer, but if Dybala becomes an option in January, Spurs would hardly turn down the chance of netting the Argentine. Corriere Dello Sport claims Dybala wants as much as £315,000 a week.
