Dele Alli is stepping up in the absence of Harry Kane

With news that Harry Kane would be out of action for several weeks, there were plenty of reasons for Tottenham fans to be fearful of where the goals would come from to see their side maintain their good form. Heung-Min Son stepped up and produced some goals, but on Sunday it was Dele Alli who stepped up to produce his best performance of the season to date.

The England international only broke into the first team this time last year but he looked confident and assured as he produced a composed finish to put his side two goals ahead before half-time. His goals from midfield will be vital as Pochettino’s side readjust to life without their star forward.

Alli will be keen to maintain this form as he plays in a deeper midfield role than he did last season, partly restricted by injuries to the likes of Eric Dier and Moussa Dembele which mean he has had to step in. If he can keep producing displays like this though, there will be little incentive to change the set-up.
