Manchester City couldn’t cope with Tottenham’s pressing
Two of Manchester City’s three top passing combinations in the White Hart Lane clash were from Claudio Bravo to his centre-backs, John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi, and back. That was representative of the huge pressure that the City backline came under as an energetic Spurs side pushed them back.
Tottenham’s front three, with support from midfield and full-backs, put constant pressure on the City defence and goalkeeper causing them to commit a number of errors, with Claudio Bravo rarely looking comfortable in goal. Much like Celtic in midweek, Spurs showed that City can be beaten with the right tactical set-up.
Pep Guardiola is still implementing his style into this side, and they struggled to adapt without Kevin De Bruyne as their focal point in attack behind Sergio Aguero. Claudio Bravo is also adapting to his new team, and the Spanish boss will be hoping that with time his side will deal with such pressure more effectively, but for now, it is a concern.
