Three things we learnt from Tottenham’s 4-1 thrashing of Watford

Tottenham’s Trippier was the star of the show

The respective suspensions of Kyle Walker and Jan Vertonghen in the Spurs defence left Mauricio Pochettino with a few decisions to make, and as some had expected he went to three at the back.

This change of formation enabled Kieran Trippier, signed from Burnley in 2015, to make his tenth appearance for the club, and only his third this season in the Premier League.

Despite being played in a right-sided midfield role instead of his usual right-back role Trippier put in an exceptional performance against Watford, proving to be a constant thorn in Walter Mazzarri’s side down the right flank as Tottenham dominated their opponents throughout.

Trippier’s fine performance included both assists for Kane’s goals, the second of which was a perfectly inviting ball into the six yard-box between the goalkeeper and defenders, and the 26-year-old had over twice as many touches as Dele Alli over 90 minutes which shows his industry down the right-hand side of the pitch.

With Walker available again for the White Hart Lane clash with Chelsea, Pochettino now has a severe dilemma as to whether Tripper retains his spot in the side.
