Janssen’s days are surely numbered

Spurs’ over-reliance on Harry Kane has been evident for some time, which is why Vincent Janssen was signed last summer from AZ for a fee of £17 million. It has been a complete failure. Janssen has scored just one Premier League goal and looks lost at this level. When Kane was injured earlier in the season, the Dutchman was handed an opportunity to prove his worth, but he failed to take it. Back to the present day, this was a game that Tottenham absolutely had to win, and yet Janssen – the club’s secondary striker – was completely ignored until it was too late. He came on as an 89th-minute substitute for Eric Dier when the tie was practically over. It spoke volumes for Pochettino’s complete lack of faith in him and suggests that he will surely be on his way out of White Hart Lane in the summer. Spurs’ search for adequate competition for Kane will continue.
