Clement has a long way to go to keep Swansea up
Walking into a club that are rock bottom of the Premier League is no easy task for anyone, and Paul Clement found out just how much work he has to do during his side’s hammering on Saturday.
Their defeat was the Swans’ 14th of the season, and although it wasn’t for the lack of effort there was a big gulf in class between Clement’s side and an Arsenal side nowhere near their best.
And yet despite their heavy defeat, the signs were there in the opening exchanges that there is hope for Clement and his team; Swansea showed a much better shape and discipline across the first fifteen minutes, putting on a display of passion that was nowhere to be seen under Bob Bradley.
This is all well and good, but a fifteen-minute spell won’t cut it in the Premier League, and the quality of his side and lack of cutting edge were found out as the game wore on.
It’s a long road, and no-one said it was going to be easy, but it’s certainly a possible task for Clement with his new side only a single point away from safety and seventeen matches still to play.
