Disciplined Sunderland deserved consecutive clean sheets
Perhaps unlike anything we’ve seen this season at the Stadium of Light, David Moyes’ side were the definition of disciplined throughout their win at Selhurst Park.
After taking an early lead, Sunderland fans can be forgiven for expecting the worst when wave after wave of Crystal Palace attacks faced a leaky Black Cats’ defence; but much like in their rearguard performance during the week against Tottenham, they stood firm and defended admirably.
Consecutive clean sheets will do Sunderland’s confidence the world of good, particularly for their defenders who worked tirelessly until the end to ensure they left London with their goal untouched.
With a four-goal advantage to defend for 45 minutes – a position Sunderland are hardly accustomed to – they could easily have switched off, but David Moyes’ side equipped themselves extremely well and battled until the end of the 90 minutes, barely giving their opponents a sniff.
This grit and determination is a good sign ahead of a tough battle for survival, and with rivals, Swansea and Hull City seemingly picking up form too it was vital for Sunderland to not lose.
