Three things we learnt from Stoke City’s 3-1 victory over Sunderland

Crouch closes in on century

Peter Crouch was handed a new contract earlier this month and the lanky striker produced another effective display on Saturday.

The 35-year-old scored his third goal in as many Premier League appearances with a simple headed finish after he easily rose above the despairing Vito Mannone, but his all-round contribution for the visitors was crucial.

Crouch led the line superbly and used his height and strength to great effect, holding up the ball and bringing team mates into the game. His smart link up play allowed Marko Arnautovic to double Stoke’s lead and he was always a threat in and around the eighteen yard box. However, he was equally as effective at the other end of the pitch and contributed a number of crucial clearances from set plays in the second half as Sunderland desperately attempted to get back into the game.

One goal and one assist, not bad for a 34-year-old who now has 99 Premier League strikes to his name.
