Southampton losing players over a summer transfer window is hardly a new phenomenon. The South Coast side usually find a more than adequate way of replacing the departed players, but that may not strictly be the case this season.

Much pre-season chatter amongst the St. Mary’s faithful centred upon the debate over the extent to which losing Victor Wanyama to Spurs would affect the balance and solidity of the Southampton midfield. In some ways this performance raised more questions than it answered.  

A proven Premier League striker, an attacking flair player, to compliment Dusan Tadic, as well as another central midfielder should be near the top of Puel’s wishlist before the window slams shut.
