Watford continue their progression, albeit with a new boss.

Without wanting to read too much into a single 90 minute performance, the Hornets look on course to emulate their exploits last season.

In the first 45 they looked dangerous going forward (although how much of that was a poor Southampton backline remains to be seen) with Nordin Amrabat impressing on the wing. Expect Amrabat and the likes of Troy Deeney and Odion Igahlo will continue to hurt teams offensively.

On the flip side, the Hornets also displayed a dogged and organised defensive display to keep the score at 1-1 in the final few minutes. This match will not live long in the memory of Watford fans, but does show some encouraging signs moving forward.
