The World Cup winner is one of the most popular players in football and it was great to see him get his first start and goal of the season against Wigan Athletic. It has been some turnaround for the midfielder as he started the season banished from the first team and is now slowly coming back into the fold. Jose Mourinho treated him harshly when he took over as manager, but the German has never publicly complained and his professional attitude throughout should be lauded. During this match, he got a goal and assist, showing that he still has the quality to influence matches.

Nobody, not even the midfielder himself, will believe that Schweinsteiger should be a regular starter for Manchester United, but he has something to offer and it would be churlish for the club to sideline him. He has experience at the highest level, possesses a winning mentality and is a born leader. The German will be a great man to have on the training ground, but it is on the pitch that he could play his biggest part for the club. Manchester United are still in four competitions and they will need to rotate their squad effectively in order to maintain a Champions League challenge. In Schweinsteiger, they have a good midfielder and it is important that Mourinho uses him more, especially in the cup competitions.
