It’s hard to imagine just how much pressure – both internal and external – was on Pogba when he put pen-to-paper on a deal to join Manchester United in the summer. For such a mouth-watering transfer fee, most observers expected him to fit seamlessly into the United side and immediately be their creative fulcrum, in the same manner that Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are for Real Madrid and Barcelona, respectively. In reality, it is never that straightforward. All teams have a different way of playing and the tactical awareness Mourinho demands took time for the Frenchman to understand. But it is no surprise that Pogba’s return to top form has coincided with United’s excellent run of results, which stands at six consecutive victories in all competitions. It was fitting that Pogba netted the winner with his sixth goal of the season, another indication that he is fulfilling his huge potential.
