Is Pogba’s future at Manchester United as a defensive midfielder?

Jose Mourinho decided to stick with the combination of Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera at the back of Manchester United’s midfield on Saturday, rather than recall Michael Carrick to the side.

After playing most of his games in the first-half of the season in an attacking midfield role, the 23-year-old Frenchman dominated midfield proceedings at Old Trafford, acting imperiously in almost everything he did during the 90 minutes.

During the first-half alone Pogba made 100% of his aerial duels, tackles, and interceptions, just proving how dominant a figure he cut for the home side – Watford barely had a sniff of goal at all.

Yet he still had the tenacity to break forward as United attacked, twice forcing Heurelho Gomes into smart stops, and Watford will be sick of the sight of him; he seemed to be everywhere on the pitch.
