Three things we learnt from Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Stoke

Wilfried Bony Is Well Off The Pace

Stoke’s fitness coaches have plenty of work to do getting Bony up to the speed of Premier League football. Bony did not play many games towards the end of his time at Manchester City, and looks as if he needs a few weeks’ training. Moreover, the Ivorian’s confidence will have taken a bit of a battering as he found himself well down the pecking order at Eastlands.

Despite the fact Stoke were on the back foot for most of the game, they had some excellent counter attacking opportunities, but failed to turn them into clear cut chances. A more mobile striker could have been a more potent threat; things didn’t get any better on that front when Jon Walters and Peter Crouch were introduced.

Bony’s hold up play is typically very tidy and he is an adept finisher in the penalty area, but a team that relies on counter attacks could do with some extra speed out there. The former Swansea striker will be a big asset at the Britannia however, when Stoke are expected to take the game to the opposition.
