Pressing Liverpool Can Be A Fruitful Tactic
There was a lot of discussion before the game about United coping with Liverpool’s pressing, but they managed to turn the tables on them in the first half. Klopp’s side have had the most possession in the Premier League, so are clearly a technically adept side that can pass well and quickly. However, their technicians tend to be located in the last third. When the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Adam Lallana, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane combine in the opposition’s half, they move the ball in with great speed and accuracy. However, United showed that when put under pressure they are not particularly good at playing out from be the back and passing in their own half. The likes of Can, Jordan Henderson and Dejan Lovren are not comfortable taking the ball under pressure. If you can make Liverpool play in areas where they don’t want the ball, you can get success.
