Kelechi Iheanacho has stepped up

In the absence of Sergio Aguero, it would have been hard to criticise Citizens’ fans for doubting who would become the club’s goal-scorer in such a scenario, but young Nigerian Iheanacho has stepped up to the plate perfectly, taking his tally to ten goals from 14 shots on target in the Premier League.

The 19-year-old has now scored two goals in a couple of Premier League games since Aguero was given a three-match ban, also notching in an eight minute cameo against Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League, and may well have given Pep Guardiola food for thought as to whether Sergio Aguero will return to the starting eleven as easily as expected.

What’s more is that Iheanacho has offered so much more than just goals. With two assists to his name from the two remaining fixtures, Iheanacho has created or scored at a rate of two goals per game. The starlet will look to extend that in the EFL Cup should he start on Wednesday night up against Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium before returning in the Premier League next weekend, when Aguero is expected to be back in contention.
