City mean business in Europe this season
Granted, Gladbach were a shadow of the side that faced City last season and rarely looked like scoring, however, the manner in which Guardiola’s men disposed of their opponents was nevertheless impressive.
In previous seasons City have made hard work of opponents that they ought to have beaten easily. Laborious build-up play combined with poor service to the forwards have been their main downfalls on the field, but there were no signs of either last night as the Premier League leaders sauntered to victory in a style befitting that of a European heavyweight.
If they are to go far in this season’s competition then they will require the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling to be at their best on a consistent basis. Last night they all were, in particular Aguero, whose three finishes were all characteristic of a world-class goalscorer. The Argentine will be key to City’s hopes of Champions League progress and if he and his teammates can consistently replicate such performances then they stand a good chance of reaching the latter stages of the competition.
