Phillipe Coutinho’s injury could be devastating

In the 34th minute, Liverpool fans nightmares became a reality as Phillipe Coutinho was stretchered off the field of play with his leg in a brace and the player clearly in agony.

Initial reports suggest that the Brazilian has avoided a fracture, as many feared at first, but there is still no certainty over the extent of his injury which looked a serious one.

As the club’s star player in the opening months of the season, it will come as a major blow to the Reds if he is out long term. Daniel Sturridge or Divock Origi will most likely step in, with Roberto Firmino going wide or one of those two playing in a wider role, but their star man’s quality will be missed.
