Three things we learnt from Liverpool’s demolition of Hull City

Adam Lallana has proved himself

Lallana has always been the man who has failed to convince. People questioned whether he could step up from Southampton to Liverpool, then whether he would retain his place under Klopp, and has been frequently criticised while with England, but against Hull he produced one of the best displays of his career to date.

The former Saints captain opened the scoring just after the quarter hour mark to break the deadlock and then did well to set up Sadio Mane and Phillipe Coutinho as the Reds impressed with a quality attacking display which saw them have 32 shots, compared to just two for Hull. Lallana, in his central role, excelled and shone at the heart of the majority of the team’s attacking moves in a man of the match display.

The ex-Southampton star also had some incredible stats, with a 94% pass completion ratio only enhanced when you see that that ratio in the final third was 90%, one of the highest rates to be measured by any player in Europe this season. He also showed that there is more to his game by winning two of his three tackles as he continues to show that he can excel in a slightly deeper midfield role that he is playing under Jurgen Klopp.
