Liverpool showed the character needed to fight for the title

James Milner has attributed Liverpool’s comeback to Jurgen Klopp’s rousing half-time team talk as the Reds came back from behind to show the character which has so often been missing in recent years for the side from Merseyside. With Leroy Fer giving his side the lead through their Achilles’ heel, set-pieces, and in-form Adam Lallana going off injured, there were reasons to be pessimistic.

However, it took Roberto Firmino just nine minutes to draw the scores back level after the break and he would then go on to win a penalty to allow James Milner to win the game in the 84th minute. Without any unforced substitutions until the 85th minute, it was clear that Klopp believed in his men to turn things around, and they duly obliged.

After accusations that the Reds could not produce the goods against lower teams like Swansea who would be prepared to sit and fight for a point or to protect a lead, Liverpool proved all of the critics wrong with a strong display to show that they really could be contenders for the Premier League title.
