Liverpool have really missed Sadio Mane
In just two minutes, Sadio Mane twice showed exactly what this Liverpool team had been missing in recent weeks. His drive and pace terrified the Tottenham defence and he left them for dead as he burst past to open the scoring, before being in the perfect position to pounce on a rebound and fire a second into the back of the net.
The Senegal international, who missed a number of games whilst being away at the African Cup of Nations, could in truth have had a hat-trick in the next few minutes too. With two chances in the next five minutes, he fired just wide and forced Hugo Lloris into a great save to keep Tottenham in the game.
The clinical side of the former Southampton man’s game was crucial, and he allowed Liverpool an extra dimension when breaking forward. Whilst first choice Danny Rose may have put up more of a fight than his replacement Ben Davies had he not been injured, Mane’s impact was clear for all to see.
