Drinkwater keeps Leicester ticking
Alan Shearer labelled it “nonsensical” on Match of the Day that Roy Hodgson failed to include Danny Drinkwater in his final 23 man squad for Euro 2016 with England, and he showed his importance to the defending champions once again against the Swans on Saturday, taking the game by the scruff of the neck even in the trying adverse weather conditions, enjoying more passes and more touches of the ball than any player on the pitch and covering the most ground.
His through-ball for Jamie Vardy’s first-half goal was weighted perfectly and bar his sensational assist, he was at the heart of all of Leicester’s positive, one-touch play and how he was able to control the game in relentless torrential rain is a testament not only to his skill, but his work rate and confidence. On this showing, another England call-up from Sam Allardyce with the international break looming may not be far away.
