3) Referees will still make mistakes

Mike Dean blew the whistle in the first minute of the second half to give a penalty to the Foxes which gave them the opportunity to draw the scores back level. Tom Huddlestone the offender, there was a clear foul on Demarai Gray as he dragged his studs down the back of the former Birmingham star’s leg as he exploded into the box… But the foul was clearly outside the box.

Dean will undoubtedly be on the receiving end of some stick for the decision, though it fortunately did not make a difference to the final outcome of the game with Snodgrass putting the newly promoted outfit back in front just ten minutes later, but it only adds weight to criticisms of Premier League referees.

Whether the decision would have been helped by more advice from the assistant referee may have helped is unknown, but video footage would certainly have made a case for it being a free-kick rather than a penalty. Hull got lucky this time, but if the game had finished 1-1 rather than 2-1, those two points could have made a major difference come the end of the season.
