With only three first team players on the bench, protests against the owners and no manager, there’s not a lot to be hopeful about for Tigers fans, but today’s performance may have changed that.

There was a superb defensive display from Phil Whelan’s men as they stopped attacks at the source and defended well in numbers, not allowing Leicester to infiltrate the lines. They dealt well with the pace of the likes of Vardy and Gray, sitting back and giving them the time and space to retain possession but not to damage them.

Adama Diomande’s effort, which was possibly the first ever goal to be scored by two men, and Robert Snodgrass’ winner were both good finishes and showed the clinical finishing which sent Hull to the top of the Championship early last season and set the wheels in motion for their Premimer League return. Reproducing that on a regular basis with a small number of players available will be the challenge.
