Bournemouth need defensive reinforcements

Alarmingly for Eddie Howe, the Cherries have now conceded three goals in seven of their past nine Premier League matches. It is a worrying trend that threatens to drag them into a relegation scrap. Nathan Ake’s recall to Chelsea was a hammer blow to Howe, who was also without suspended skipper Simon Francis for the trip to Hull. Ake had been a revelation after forcing his way into the starting XI in November and had formed a solid partnership with Steve Cook in central defence. Without him, the Cherries looked rudderless, with Tyrone Mings making his first league start for the club since suffering a cruciate knee injury, five minutes into his debut in August 2015. Publicly, Howe has backed the defenders at his disposal. But privately, he will know that reinforcements are required as a matter of urgency. Expect him to dip into the transfer market in the next couple of weeks.
