Liverpool flatter to deceive against the minnows once more

The Reds have enjoyed some notable victories this season, not least away to Chelsea and Arsenal and at home to Manchester City. But their failure to overturn some of the Premier League’s lesser lights has been their Achilles heel, which is threatening to derail their campaign. Liverpool had already suffered unexpected defeats at the hands of Burnley, Bournemouth and most recently Swansea City before this latest setback, which was another crushing blow to Jurgen Klopp. The German was scathing in his post-match appraisal, describing his side’s performance as ‘unacceptable’ in an interview with the BBC. From being genuine title contenders not so long ago, Liverpool are now in danger of missing out on a Champions League place altogether. They have yet to win a league match in 2017, a slide that must be arrested. The return of Sadio Mane from international duty is a much-needed boost, but Klopp, having not spent a penny in January, has a tough job on his hands.
