Everton are heading in the right direction

There was a lot of fury after Everton limped out of the FA Cup at the third round stage last weekend with a disappointing display against Leicester City. As the side are leading the way as the best of the rest, they should have prioritised the FA Cup, but they are now out of the competition. However, this was always going to be a transitional period for the club as Ronald Koeman started to build the squad that he needs. This victory, coupled with the one over Arsenal last month suggests that they are beginning to head in the right direction.

Their team at the moment is good enough to give any side in the league a real test. The emergence of several young players has increased competition for places and provided energy to what was a lumbering side over the first few months of the season. Mason Holgate was excellent as part of the back-three, Tom Davies ran the midfield with some intelligent passing and dynamic forward runs, while Ademola Lookman made an immediate impact with a debut goal. Ross Barkley and Romelu Lukaku are both reaching their best this season and Everton could be set for an exciting second half of the season, especially if they make a couple more additions as expected.
