David Moyes has work to do with his defence
The Scotsman built a reputation whilst at Goodison Park of building from the back with a solid defensive unit, and the Black Cats showed that there was plenty left to be desired as they were pulled all over the place by the movement of Gerard Deulofeu and Romelu Lukaku in the second half.
Papy Djilobodji in particular looked like a fish out of water at times, whilst his central defensive partner Lamine Kone looked exhausted by the final whistle having been given the run around. The former Chelsea man showed some atrocious positioning and lost his man time and time again as he allowed Romelu Lukaku in on three separate occasions and gave his teammates no chance of stopping him.
If there were any positives, it was the performance of 22-year-old goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, who saved his side time and time again and was almost single handedly responsible for keeping the scores level as long as he did. Whilst he had little to do in the first half, he was busy in the second and made a number of saves showing experience belying his age and he could develop into one of the brightest young English goalkeepers in the game.
