Three things we learnt from Chelsea’s win away at Hull

Diego Costa is back to his best

A goal, an assist and more importantly, a completely dedicated performance from the Spaniard completely blew away the Tigers. His will to win the ball was shown in a 100% tackles rate, and this allowed him to create opportunities, including the ball to Willian for the first goal.

He looked a frustrated figure at the Emirates, but today things went his way and it allowed him to have a much bigger influence on the game. Chelsea were much quicker winning the ball back, and it provided Costa with the ammunition he needed to get into space and create an opportunity.

Hull desperately need a win

A good win at Stoke in the EFL Cup was impressive, but the Tigers have been involved in some real heavy defeats in recent times. 4-1 to Arsenal and 5-1 to Liverpool was hard to take, but losing late on to Man Utd, and 2-0 to Chelsea in a second half where they really struggled will leave its mark.

It’s unfortunate that all the big teams seem to be playing Hull at the moment, and Mike Phelan’s side will be in need of playing a much more winnable fixture – and getting a result straight away.
