Chelsea are a different side under Antonio Conte’s new system
After a mixed bag of results in the opening weeks of the season, Antonio Conte finally gave in and switched to his preferred 3-4-3 formation using wing backs after defeat to Arsenal. Emphatic victories over Hull City, Leicester City and now Manchester United mean that his side are now regaining lost ground on the title race.
Mourinho has a long history of tactical masterclasses at Stamford Bridge but there was to be no repeat as Conte’s system destroyed United, with the pace and guile of their counter attacking play used to devastating effect and keeping the United midfield pinned back deep and restricting them to long balls and shots from distance to try to find their own way forwards.
Whilst much of the tactics are behind the improvement, credit must also be given to the players. Victor Moses in particular has come in from the cold to become a vital player on the right wing, with the likes of Eden Hazard and Diego Costa quickly regaining their form of old and Cesar Azpilicueta quickly adapting to a new role. Things are clearly on the up for the Blues.
