Three things we learnt from Chelsea’s 3-0 thumping of Leicester City

Youth could have a new chance at Stamford Bridge

Including captain John Terry, five of the seven players on the Chelsea bench have come through the youth ranks at Stamford Bridge, the highest number that the club have seen in a number of years. Whilst the likes of Jose Mourinho almost ignored the academy when looking for talent, Antonio Conte is giving youth a chance.

Whilst injuries may have given him few alternatives of late, the Blues boss was rewarded as Nathaniel Chalobah superbly set up Victor Moses to finish off the game as he impressed in his 22 minute appearance. Right back Ola Aina also came on in the final minutes of the game for his Premier League debut.

It will be interesting to see if this continues when Conte has a full squad fit and available, and whether he looks to sign star players from outside the club or is willing to develop these players to fill the gaps rather than shopping elsewhere for the many problem positions he has already identified.
