Kante and Fabregas reign supreme in midfield
In a match where West Ham would have fancied themselves causing an upset after a recent upturn in form, Chelsea put in yet another dominant midfield performance to secure all the spoils.
Key to this, were the dynamic midfield duo of N’Golo Kante and Cesc Fabregas, who dictated play in the middle of the park and completely outran their opposite numbers of Mark Noble and Pedro Obiang. Between them they had an 88% passing accuracy, keeping Chelsea ticking over in attack, as well as making seven blocks, two interceptions and four clearances in an equally impressive defensive display.
It was Kante who also set the ball rolling for Chelsea’s opener, making a lightning break from inside his own penalty area and travelling past the half-way line, showing a superb array of pace and power – despite his small stature – to create an opportunity out of nothing for his side.
