The phrase ‘under the radar’ is an amusing one, because as soon as it is known that a team is going under the radar they are therefore very much on the radar. Lots has been written recently about how well run Southampton are and the good work that goes on there, and even the top teams will start treating a trip to St Mary’s as a big game. Chelsea started the game in fine fashion, but went into their shells at 1-0. This was a little perplexing to watch, it seemed as if they were playing a risky game allowing Southampton so much possession. However, as the game progressed it became apparent that this was a tactic; defending quite deep and preventing Southampton finding Dusan Tadic and Nathan Redmond between the lines. Southampton will have to adapt to team’s coming to them and looking to contain and today was a good lesson for them moving forward.
