Lucas Perez will be used as a striker

Arsenal’s attack has been functioning so well that Perez has struggled to get many minutes, but he was handed a comfortable 30-minute cameo last night. Initially, he started on the right flank having replaced Theo Walcott before moving through the middle once Sanchez had been taken off. This is an incredibly small sample size, but the Spaniard looked more comfortable and was far more influential in the centre forward position.

He has played on the flank in the past, but had his breakthrough season last year with Deportivo as a striker, so hasn’t played the role in a while. That said, his best moment came when he made a darting run into the left channel and whipped a perfect cross into the path of Ozil for Arsenal’s fifth. Some players like to start wide and come in, while some like to start central and drift out. Perez looks like the latter type.

If Arsenal keep up their form, it will be hard for him to dislodge any of the current starters, but he looks a very useful option from the bench. Has greater physicality than many assume.
