David Ospina’s Limitations Were Highlighted Again

Ospina has been excellent in the Champions League thus far, and in many respects European football suits his strengths. The main advantage the Colombian goalkeeper has over Petr Cech is he is far sharper off his line and adept at thwarting players in one on one situations. There is plenty of this in the Champions League, especially away from home as Arsenal expose themselves to the counter attack. Typically, there are less high balls into the penalty area to deal with, much like South American football. However, Ludogorets tested him from set pieces last night and he stayed rooted to his line. Ospina was targeted badly by West Ham and Andy Carroll last season, and will continue to be should be called upon in the Premier League.
