With a result that neither team wanted, neither gambled
With two sides desperate to finish as high as possible, and in the top four at the very least, it was a shock to see them both happy to sit back deep and see the game out with the scores at 2-2 on the hour mark. For Arsenal in particular, sitting down in sixth and playing at home, it came as a surprise to see them take such a defensive stance.
That said, following on from two consecutive defeats in the Premier League meant that a point may not have been the worst case scenario for Arsene Wenger and his team but it also upped the need for the Gunners to go all out. Without Laurent Koscielny and with a vulnerable defence, attacking may have been dangerous, but it could have paid off.
For City, there was less of a need to go all out for the win. Sitting in fourth, with a game in hand on Liverpool, they have little chance of challenging Chelsea and look to be clear of their City rivals, but with a defence like theirs, Guardiola clearly wanted to add protection.
