Alexis Sanchez possesses an elite personality

The Chilean has been criticised for some of his on-field reactions in recent weeks, but he was the match-winner this afternoon and the positive side of his personality shone through. Against Bournemouth, he was seen to be physically upset with the result and stormed to the dressing room. Then, last weekend he was sulking in the dugout after being substituted with the game already won. These were seen as negative reactions, but they emphasise the elite personality that Sanchez possesses. He wants to win every game and play every minute. It isn’t that he publicly wants to show dissent.

This weekend, he showed his elite personality with his match-winning penalty. He was composed as he prepared to take the spot-kick and scored with a composed chipped finish down the middle of the goal. Many other players may have crumbled under the enormous pressure that came with that penalty as he tried to keep Arsenal’s title hopes alive. However, Sanchez isn’t like most players and has taken his game to the next level this season. His contract situation is a concern, but he is still performing on the pitch and deserves credit for his performance this afternoon.
