West Ham’s defence remains a huge issue
The Hammers are only one point above the relegation zone and the pressure is building on Slaven Bilic. They were much improved on Saturday and deserved to take the lead on two separate occasions, but they couldn’t see the game out. Since the start of the season, the East London side have conceded 23 goals in 12 matches, which is a huge concern. This is worse than all but one side (Hull City) in the Premier League and there are doubts about whether Bilic is the man to fix them.
All three goals could have been avoided on Saturday, with the last being a result of an individual error. Although Bilic can’t prevent individual errors, his side looks a lot less assured at the back than it did last season. If they lose again next weekend they could find themselves in the relegation zone and that could be the final straw for the West Ham board. They would have expected to be challenging in the top half again this year after the move to their new stadium, but this season is quickly developing into a nightmare.
