Can Tottenham win the title?

Tottenham’s comfortable victory against Stoke City on Sunday moves them, temporarily at least, into second place in the table behind league leaders Chelsea. Mauricio Pochettino’s side trail The Blues by ten points but it would still take something special if they were to snatch the Premier League title out of the hands of their London rivals.

The greater question is – are Tottenham improving?

Pochettino is undoubtedly building a young, dynamic team and the contract extensions handed out to key players within the last six months suggests that the Argentinian is determined to keep hold of his star names. However, the club faltered in the transfer market during the summer, with only Victor Wanyama has proving to be a shrewd addition, whilst they also suffered an early exit from Europe this campaign.

There are certainly plenty of positives for supporters but you sense that Tottenham need to make intelligent and significant investment during the summer if they are to offer a more genuine challenge next season.
