Shooting practice needed for Jose Mourinho’s side
Another week, another set of dropped points in a match that should have well and truly been put to bed for Jose Mourinho’s side.
Manchester United’s draw at Stoke is the fifth time this season that missed chances have proved costly, and the second time against Mark Hughes’ side; winnable matches have only turned out to be draws, and it’s proved the difference between being title-challengers and the positon they’re in now.
United were in complete control of the match from the opening whistle, and despite Juan Mata unfortunately diverting the ball into his own net they had more than enough clear chances to see off a determined, but uninspiring, Stoke side.
Mourinho’s side had 25 efforts on goal during their stalemate, with eight shots testing Grant in the Stoke goal, but is still wasn’t enough to claim the win.
Although there’s no doubt that United are a more complete side this season compared to any of the past four years, it’s not enough to just be in control of matches – they need goals.
