Mourinho’s left-wing dilemma continues
After over half a season at Old Trafford, it is beginning to appear that Jose Mourinho knows his strongest starting eleven in almost every position – except the left-wing role.
With Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, and Juan Mata all utilised on the left-wing at various points of the season, it seems that United’s dilemma in this area continues to grow.
Against Saint Etienne, Mkhitaryan started on the left and had a solid start to the match, getting his goal, whilst it was Mata’s beautifully weighted cross that created United’s opener.
Yet even when the Armenian was forced off, 19-year-old Rashford came on and had an excellent match to use his pace against the French side’s defence; and with Martial putting in a strong performance at Old Trafford last week, Mourinho must be scratching his head at who to choose.
With a Wembley final coming up on Sunday against Southampton it will be interesting to see who gets the nod to start, as each player seems to prove a point whenever given time on the pitch.
Not that this is a bad position to be in, however – Mourinho will be thrilled at the competition for places as it pushes his squad to impress each match, which has helped United build their winning streak.
