Lincoln City forward leads his side with old-school forward play
If Burnley turned up to Turf Moor expecting an easy ride against their non-league opponents – 81 positions lower in the footballing ladder – then they were horribly mistaken.
What followed in the 90 minutes was an incredible football match, with Lincoln deservedly reaching the last 8 of the FA Cup for the first time in their history.
A huge part of this was due to the pure physical presence of Lincoln forward Matt Rhead, who gave Burnley’s defence and midfield nightmares as they tried to cope with his power.
Despite having to drop back into midfield at times to help out his side’s defensive efforts, the 32-year-old forward had an ongoing battle with Joey Barton that encapsulated Lincoln’s fight at Turf Moor – he took no prisoners and gave no respect to their Premier League counterparts.
Saturday’s result was a huge team effort by Lincoln and will go down in the history of the club, and Rhead was a true leader on the pitch.
