Robles to the rescue for the Toffees

After a woeful performance in the 3-1 loss to rivals Liverpool in the Merseyside derby at the weekend, Everton goalkeeper Joel Robles stood up and was simply superb on Tuesday evening.

There seems to be a running theme this season that visiting goalkeepers to Old Trafford suddenly turn invincible, and this was the case once again as the Spaniard pulled out a string of top saves.

His first-half save from Daley Blind’s free-kick was nothing short of sensational, diving at full stretch into the post in order to palm the ball out of harm’s way and keep Everton’s narrow lead intact.

Robles was everything that Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea wasn’t on Tuesday, communicating with his defence well and commanding his area to keep a frustrated United at bay.

Although the 26-year-old was fortunate Ibrahimovic’s headed effort was disallowed after fumbling it over the line, had it not been for his inspired display then Everton may well have left with nothing.
