Jose Mourinho is Jose Mourinho and he will never change
From the very start, Manchester United’s game plan was clear. Sit back, look to play on the counter and take out Eden Hazard whenever he got onto the ball. Unfortunately, it turned out to be the wrong call as Ander Herrera paid the ultimate price.
It could well have been a very different game had the Spaniard not seen red, but whilst United fans may argue that it did not warrant a second yellow, it was foolish at best to take the Belgian forward out only seconds after referee Michael Oliver had issued a warning to Phil Jones and captain Chris Smalling.
Mourinho’s mind games, first starting Marcus Rashford having seemed to rule him out, laughing in reaction to the red card and then declaring his pride in his players after the game, are exactly what we have come to expect from the former Chelsea boss.
